Issue After updating Macromedia Flash Player,
users are unable to insert a Flash Button in a
Dreamweaver MX document. Dreamweaver is able to
insert Flash Text, but freezes when launching or
displaying the Insert Flash Button dialog box.
This issue will only occur if the Flash Player DLL
in Dreamweaver's Plugins folder has been removed
(in which case, Dreamweaver relies on the DLL
installed in Netscape's plugins folder) or
replaced with a newer version of the Flash Player
DLL. This is a known issue and our engineers are
investigating possible resolutions.
Note:
Dreamweaver 4 and UltraDev 4 users may also
encounter this issue.
Reason Dreamweaver freezes if the Flash Player DLL
(NPSWF32.dll) used is version 6.0.40.0 or higher.
To determine the version of the Flash Player DLL
used by Dreamweaver, do the following:
1 |
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to
Dreamweaver's Plugins folder. The default
location is c:\program
files\macromedia\dreamweaver mx\configuration
\plugins. |
|
Note:
The actual path may vary depending on
where the application is
installed. |
2 |
Locate the Flash Player DLL currently in
the folder (the file name is
NPSWF32.dll). |
3 |
Select the file and right-click to view
the properties. |
4 |
Select the Version tab to view the
version number of the Flash Player
file. |
|
Note:
If the Flash Player file does not exist
in the Plugins folder of Dreamweaver, the
application will use the Flash Player file
located in the Netscape folder. A typical
location for this folder is c:\program
files\netscape\netscape 7\plugins. The version
of the Flash Player DLL that Netscape uses will
depend on the version of the Flash Player
currently
installed. |
Solution Replace the version of the Flash Player DLL
that Dreamweaver uses with a compatible version
(version 6.0.29.0).
1 |
Download a compatible Flash Player
DLL (version 6.0.29.0).
|
2 |
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to
Dreamweaver's Plugins folder. The default
location is c:\program
files\macromedia\dreamweaver mx\configuration
\plugins. |
|
Note:
The actual path may vary depending on
where the application is
installed. |
3 |
Replace the Flash Player DLL currently in
the folder with the compatible version. If there
is no Flash Player DLL currently in this folder,
copy the downloaded version into this
folder. |
4 |
Restart
Dreamweaver. |
Note:
Reinstalling Dreamweaver will also resolve
the issue since it will install a compatible Flash
Player DLL in its Plugins folder. It is not
possible to extract only the Flash Player file
from the installer. In order to replace the Flash
Player file with a compatible version, either
download and replace it with the file above or
reinstall Dreamweaver.
